This project is designed for a family that frequently receives guests which presents a challenge to create a space that accommodates both public gatherings and the owner’s privacy. Wheelchair accessibility is also a feature to be implemented in this design.
The site is situated in Sentul, away from the heart of Jakarta. It has a linear shape which consists of entrances on both ends with difference in elevation. This inspires the design to create two masses that faces both the entrances. Taking advantage of the cooler weather, the idea is to maximize openings for optimal airflow.
The bridge and inner court separates the main building from surrounding noises to create privacy for the family while receiving guests in the pavilion. A long sky lit ramp acts as the sole vertical circulation for the site which further emphasizes the spatial experience of this design.
This house consists of two masses, the main building adopts a simple approach implementing thin white walls which gives a light impression on the mass. Walls on the ground level are positioned diagonally to indirectly hide the main entrance. The secondary mass which faces the higher end of the entrance acts as a pavilion to host the guests. This zone consists of the guest living, pool area and the service area which is hidden on the ground level.
